{Stairway Designs: A Combination of Utility and Aesthetics
Staircases are more than just a means of moving between levels; they are a integral part of a building’s architecture. There are many styles of stairs, each offering distinct benefits and design possibilities for various spaces. From space-saving Spiral stairway designs to elegant Curved designs, there’s a staircase to fit any space or vision.
{U-Shaped Stairway Designs: A Luxurious Feature
U-shaped stairs are recognised for their two identical flights and a middle landing that switches direction. This design is often found in spacious homes or commercial spaces with plentiful upward room. The U-shape is compact, offering a luxurious aesthetic without taking up too much room. The central landing provides a place to take a break and can be enhanced with displays. These stairway designs are associated with luxury and are common in luxurious homes.
{Curved Staircases: A Classic Feature
These stairs are recognised for their graceful, curved design that sweeps seamlessly upward. Curved stairway designs are more comfortable to use than Spiral ones, as their gentle arc provides a more comfortable climb. Curved stairs are typically seen in spacious homes, historic structures, or luxury hotels as a centrepiece. The intricate construction of Curved stairs makes them more high-end than other types. However, the finished stair is a gorgeous architectural detail that transforms the look of any room.
{The Functionality of Floating Stairs
Floating staircases, also known as cantilevered stairs, are a sleek and clean design that creates the effect of treads "floating" in mid-air. These staircases achieve their suspended look by being secured to a concealed structure, avoiding obtrusive elements. Floating stairway designs are a popular choice in sleek design, as they add to the spacious vibe of a home. The simple design of Floating stairs allows other interior elements, like artwork, to become design highlights. Despite their visually striking appearance, Floating staircases need careful engineering to remain stable.
{The Appeal of Spiral Staircases
A Spiral stairway design consists of steps that spiral around a central pole in a helical fashion. This option is great for compact spaces, like outdoor areas, where standard staircases are bulky. This design is often constructed from materials like wood, offering stylish creative opportunities. Despite their efficient design, Spiral staircases can be trickier for individuals with physical challenges or bulky loads. However, their eye-catching design makes them a favourite option for adding creative design to interiors.
{The Sophistication of Bifurcated Stairs
A Bifurcated stairway design is characterised by its balanced design, typically seen in public venues. These stairs have a primary flight that branches into two flights at a platform, usually turning in different ways. Bifurcated stairs are well-known for their impressive and dramatic design, making them ideal for formal rooms. The layout allows for a harmonious look, often enhanced with ornate railings, fixtures, or other design elements. Although they need a lot of space and a larger budget, Bifurcated stairs are a enduring symbol of luxury.
{Staircases: A Symbol of Architectural Craftsmanship
Stairs are a powerful reminder of how construction can combine utility with artistic expression. From practical Straight stairs to artistic Spiral designs, staircases can be adapted to fit any concept or space. No matter the scope or scale of a project, stairs will remain a timeless and key element of design
Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
